About

Karlīna Īvāne

I am a professional violinist, violist and viola d’amore player. I graduated from Conservatorio di Verona (diplomas in violin and viola) and Hochschule für Musik Würzburg (solo performance diplomas in violin and viola). After returning to Latvia, I have obtained a Master’s Degree in String Quartet Performance at Latvian Academy of Music, as well as completed my Doctoral studies in musicology. I have acquired a broad experience playing in various European professional orchestras as I Virtuosi Italiani in Italy, Orchestra della Svizzera italiana in Switzerland, RTÉ Concert Orchestra in Ireland, Die Nürnberger Symphoniker in Germany and many others. In Latvia I have worked as a second principal viola in the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, as well as played baroque viola in the orchestra Collegium Musicum Riga. I frequently perform as a soloist and chamber musician, in particular with Liepāja String Quartet, which was acknowledged as the best string quartet in the First Baltic State String Quartet Competition in 2013. I particularly enjoy playing the viola and motive the children to play this wonderful instrument. Lately I have been discovering the baroque “violin of love” – viola d’amore, and share the secrets of playing this instrument with my students.
