My choice in music teaching

Listening to various thoughts of music teacher presented in videos in MOOC course, there was really possibility to think about various extremes. For me it was impossible to imagine to teach only popular, teaching no notation. I agree very much with Richard Gill that you as a teacher don’ t have to fear to introduce things which are unknown to students. I agree that it is equally stupid to teach only pop music as to teach say only baroque music. I maybe disagree that singing should be the main thing in music lessons, because I am sure, not everybody loves it. I would love to have the mix in my lessons. I would present to my students what I think (and also curricula requests) is important for them to know in a attractive way, and I would insert elements of music they love (pop music) in small chunks, for example, using it in “brain breaks” – so called ” move and freeze” songs. I also would make parallels of remote and modern music, showing common things and convincing that this music in the end is not so different, because was created by humans like us.
