Technologies in music teaching

I think we can’t be on extremes – teaching totally without technologies in the world where we are living with technologies, and we can’t teach only with technologies as there are always much more than that.

I have observed in my own music lessons that using too much technologies could be over-stimulating, and children are needing normal human interaction. In my experience technologies are very helpful to explain theoretical concepts, as note reading skills etc. in ore attractive and effective way. Technologies also are helping in making and creating music when there are no many real instruments in classroom available. For example we can use an audio recorder function in our mobile phones to record “music” what we hear around us and discuss. For instance I was talking with my students how Messian was inspired by bird songs, but also Vivaldi, Beethoven, Respighi and others. That our mobile devices could be our modern day composers ” sketch-books”.
